What does the Advanced Adventurer course look like?

The Advanced Adventurer course cosists of five open water adventure dives. There is also a bit of theory to each adventure to give you the opportunity to try out new areas safely and knowledgeably. What exactly this course will look like is mainly up to you, as you personally choose the diving adventures you want to experience with us, after consulting with your instructor.

Knowledge

The knowledge part is based on an accessible digital manual that you can read on your computer or in an app on your phone. We can make it available to you even before you arrive to give you more time to process the knowledge.

Each chapter of the manual is about a different diving adventure and introduces you to a different area of diving. You can read only about those adventure dives that interest you or about all of them. Chapters end with review questions to help you find out if you understand everything. In addition, you also have our instructors to discuss the most important issues with you and clarify any doubts. Good news – there is no exam on this course! 🙂

Practice

In open water you will take part in five adventure dives. You can choose from:

Children and teenagers can also participate in the advanced diving course, but lower depth limits apply. Contact us for details.

Frequently Asked Questions about the SSI Advanced Adventurer course in Gozo

What is the Advanced Adventurer Course?

The SSI Advanced Adventurer course is a scuba certification program designed to improve your diving skills, explore different diving environments, and increase your confidence under water. This course is equivalent to PADI Advanced Open Water Course.

How many dives are required for the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

The course includes five dives, each in a different specialty area. They are called Adventure Dives. The most common adventure dive is Deep Diving. Unlike with PADI Advanced Open Diver Course, Navigation Advendure Dive is not required to complete the SSI Advanced Adventurer course. With SSI you can choose all five Adventure Dives!

How long does it take to complete the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

The Advanced Adventurer course can typically be completed in 2-3 days, depending on the dive center and scheduling. For safety and quality reasons you can complete no more than 3 course dives on one day.

What is the maximum depth allowed after completing the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

If you choose the Deep Diving Adventure, after completing the course you will be certified to dive up to a maximum depth of 30 meters (100 feet), although the depth varies depending on local regulations and your age (21 meters/70 feet for divers under 15).

Can I choose any specialty dives for the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

Yes, you can choose your Adventure Dives from a variety of specialties like Night Diving, Perfect Buoyancy, Wreck Diving, Boat Diving, Nitrox Diving and a few others. However, Deep Diving is typically recommended.

Is the SSI Advanced Adventurer course the same as the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification?

No. The SSI Advanced Adventurer course gives you a taste of five different specialties, like the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver course. However, the SSI Advanced Open Water Diver certification is something else, something more. It is a recognition title for experienced divers who have not only completed at least four speciality courses, but also have at least 24 dives.

Do I need to pass a written exam to complete the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

No formal written exam is required for the SSI Advanced Adventurer course. There are some quizzes and brief knowledge reviews for you to ensure you understand the material, but the focus of this course is on practical experience.

What happens if I can't finish all five dives required for the SSI Advanced Adventurer course?

You can complete the remaining dives at a later date at the same or another dive centre. The dives you’ve already completed will count toward the course, and you won’t need to start over. There is also no time limit for completion of the SSI Advanced Adventurer course.

What is the difference between SSI and PADI Advanced diving courses?

Both SSI and PADI offer similar advanced programmes and they are both internationally recognised. The SSI Advanced Adventurer course allows more flexibility in choosing your specialty dives. You can choose all five Adventure Dives. PADI’s Advanced Open Water Diver course requires two mandatory dives (Deep and Navigation) and three elective dives. The prerequisite for both programmes is to have completed the Open Water Diver course with any recognised agency.

How long is the SSI Advanced Adventurer certification valid?

The certification is valid for life, meaning there is no need for renewal. However, it’s always recommended to dive regularly or take refresher courses, like the SSI Scuba Skills Update course if you haven’t dived for an extended period, usually two years.
