Can I try scuba diving in Gozo?

Of course! At Blue Hole Diving Gozo we offer two scuba introductory programmes specifically designed for beginners. These are the Basic Diver and the Try Scuba. You can try scuba diving with us almost every day.

Do I need any experience to try scuba diving?

No prior experience is required to try scuba diving. We offer two introductory programmes specifically designed for beginners. These are the Basic Diver and the Try scuba. What is a Discover Scuba Diving (DSD) programme?

The Discover Scuba Diving programme or the Basic Diver programme are beginner-level experiences that introduce participants to scuba diving in a controlled and supervised environment. It includes a brief introduction to equipment use and safety followed by learning some basic diving skills and finally a guided dive with an instructor. At Blue Hole Diving Gozo we offer two introductory programmes specifically designed for beginners. These are the Basic Diver and the Try scuba.

Do I need to know how to swim to try scuba diving?

While swimming skills are beneficial, you don’t need to be an expert swimmer to try scuba diving. Basic swimming abilities and comfort in the water are generally sufficient. You will be diving with the sea bottom always in sight and under the guidance of our experienced instructor.

How deep will I go on my first scuba dive?

Introductory dives for beginners typically take place at shallow depths, up to 12 metres (40 feet). The exact depth will depend on your comfort under water, the dive site and conditions.

Is scuba diving safe for beginners?

When conducted under proper guidance and with adherence to safety protocols, scuba diving is generally safe for beginners. Diving with a certified instructor and following their instructions is crucial to ensuring a safe experience. At Blue Hole Diving Gozo safety plays a crucial role.

Are there any age restrictions for trying scuba diving?

Participants need to be at least 8 years old to try scuba diving. Children that are 8 and 9 years old can only dive to a depth of 5 metres. Older participants can try scuba diving to a depth of 12 metres.

Can I continue scuba diving after trying it for the first time?

Absolutely! If you enjoy your first scuba diving experience, you can continue your training by enrolling in a certification course, such as the Open Water Diver course, which will allow you to dive independently with a buddy to a depth of 18 metres (60 feet).

Will I need to pass a medical exam before trying scuba diving?

You will be required to complete a medical questionnaire prior to the dive to ensure you are fit for diving and most people are fit for diving. In some cases you will need to consult a doctor before participating. If you have more questions, you can read the medical questionnaire here.

What is the difference between the Try Scuba and the Basic Diver programme?

The Try scuba programme is focussed on fun and experiencing diving in shallow water up to 5 metres of depth. The Basic Diver programme is about experiencing diving like certified divers do. You will first learn some basic skills in shallow water to later safely dive under suprvision of an instructor to a depth up to 12m. In addition, the Basic Diver programme can count as first lesson towards your Open Water Diver certification.

Therefore, if you just want to try diving for a while and have some fun underwater, choose the Try Scuba programme. However, if you want to learn something and you are thinking about getting qualified in the future, then choose the Basic Diver programme.
